On Graces Journey

In Christ

This site was created to help give women the hope and courage to let God use them by letting go of their old nature and pressing onto victory for God’s purpose.

Making the Switch to A Christian Herbalist Lifestyle

“Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭19‬-‭20‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

As many of you close to me may know I’ve been intrigued with a holistic lifestyle for decades. In my current season I’m really diving into Christian herbalism. So what is Christian herbalism one may ask. From google, “Christian herbalism is the practice of using medicinal plants for health and healing, grounded in a biblical worldview that views nature as God’s creation, not a source of spiritual power. It focuses on using herbs for physical, spiritual, and emotional wellness—known as tripartite care (1 Thess 5:23)—while attributing all healing glory to God, rather than New Age or pagan traditions.”

Oh how I love God’s Creation! It holds such beauty, awe, and splendor! While on this journey I’m thankful that I can dive into herbalism with respect and appreciation that God is the Creator of it all.

Sooo…what exactly am I diving into? Here’s what I’ve been working on:

I’m currently learning on a basic level what certain herbs do for us. I’m hoping to be diving deeper into learning herbs and their functions as time allows. One way I’m learning about herbs is by making infused oils like the one pictured.

In this infusion is safflower oil and chamomile. So after it steeps for 6 weeks I will strain out the chamomile and use the infused oil in various things, such as lotions and balms. Another infusion is using food grade vegetable glycerin and letting the herbs steep for 4-6 weeks and then straing the herbs, and that’s called a glycerite to be taken orally or even used topically. The below is a picture of stinging nettle, mullein and chamomile glycerites.

Fermenting my own food.

That’s just the beginning. Making a deodorant that works and lasts but without all of the harmful ingredients is very important to me, and I found the perfect recipe for one. Feel free to check it out and make one for youself, or if you don’t want to make one feel free to check back with me as my own version of that deodorant will be available for sale in the coming weeks.

Next is lotion! I’m a fan of a good lotion. I’ve been making rose infusions and using them in various things such as lotion. Feel free to check them out here.

Soaps is another one that I’ve began making myself. I took a soap making course for hotpress soap making and it’s been such a God send.

Growing food. Growing your own food is so important for being self sufficient. A dream of mine was having my own tower garden. And lo and behold I have one growing my veggies that I eat. To God Be The Glory!

And lastly, which is a HUGE one is I’m now transitioning to a vegan lifestyle. It hasn’t been difficult as I’ve found meat alternatives such as hearts of palm, mushrooms, and I’ll be trying jack fruit soon. So, yeah, I’m so thankful for God helping me to become more healthy again. And that’s what all of this is about. It’s about treating our body as a temple of the Lord. We are a living sacrifice for Him so let’s glorify Him with our bodies and everything that we do.

I’ve made other switches in my home as well, so if you’re interested in building your own home apothecary let’s link up and I can run what I know passed you, or if you want a deeper dive, Healing Harvest Homestead is an excellent resource.

Blessings to you all.
